Restoration Process
Do you have a fine old piano that has seen better days? Omega Music Pianos has been restoring and repairing pianos for many years, and we deal with all sorts of renovation projects in our workshops. We have a section that deals in repair to casework and soundboards, a section for re-applying the finish, and polishing, one for re-stringing and action setting, and a section for tuning and toning, and other fine adjustments.

Prices for Rebuilding of Grand Pianos
Tone-producing assembly
(soundboard/bridges and strings)
Disassembly of the grand piano, including cleaning and polishing the brass parts, easing the pedal rods, dismantling the tone-producing assembly, drying and wedging the soundboard, correcting soundboard curvature, bleaching the soundboard, renewing the maker’s original emblem if desired, patching and lacquering the iron frame, stripping and lacquering the soundboard, re-fitting the iron frame, correcting the down-bearing, fitting a new set of Heller bass strings and new plain wire strings with new, nickel-plated tuning pins. Optionally make up a new wrest plank and new bridge, chip, pre-tune and tune as per the Fenner system, calculating the scaling of all the plain wire and bass strings.

Grand piano action
In addition to all the works detailed above (tone-producing assembly)
The action is disassembled and reassembled with new whippens, new hammershanks, flanges, knuckles and hammers. The dampers are fitted with new damping heads and felts. The action is carefully adjusted and regulated. Subsequent intonation for sounds that leaves nothing to be desired.

Keyboard
Keyboard cleaning - the keyboard will be completely
refit. The keyboard is newly covered with man-made material or the
ivories will be carefully refurbished, i.e. ground, bleached and polished.
New bone or ivory covers can be fitted at extra charge. Alternately,
a completely new keyboard with a choice of key covers (plexi material,
bone, ivory or Tharan) can be made up and installed.

Casework
Disassembling the case down to its component parts,
stripping, sanding, fitting new veneer at all damaged areas, completely
re-veneer the body, replace the lid, retain the logo, replace if desired,
apply high-gloss polyester finish and polish.

Disassemble the piano, make patterns, gauge strings,
de-pin, clean parts. including brasses, pedal rods, remove frame.
Scrape sound board and shim necessary cracks and splits. Replace decals and re-varnish.
Clean and re-guild the frame. Re-fit, correcting down-bearing as necessary.
Make new bass strings to pattern and fit. Re-string plain strings with finest Roslau 16 polished wire. New quality wrest pins used throughout. New wrest plank.

Dismantle and clean the action, fit new action centres as required. Where necessary replace parts -hammer butt cushion felts, bridle tapes, back check felts, regulator rail felts and set of button felts. Replace hammer butt springs.
Replace or re-cover hammers.
Replace damper felt, tension or replace damper springs, and re-regulate damper action.
Finally, regulate the action, tune and voice the piano.
